What is Creative Coaching?
Creative coaching is all about seeing challenges and solving problems using multiple perspectives. Sometimes, we get caught up in our own thoughts and habits and don’t recognize that we have the tools to see old challenges in a new way. By approaching obstacles in this way, we can often find options and solutions we’ve used successfully in the past.
I come to coaching from a background in educational psychology and talent development. I have mentored and taught highly able and creative individuals for more than 25 years and I’m integrating those experiences into my coaching practice. Thus far, I have found that many of the challenges my clients face can be traced to their high expectations and lofty goals and a tendency to see others through that same lens. In working together, we can learn to be more present and compassionate for ourselves as well as for others. We explore your strengths and talents and the ways in which you’ve overcome challenges in the past. I rely on the perspective of Positive Psychology, with its emphasis on positive emotions that are generated by acknowledging and using your strengths to overcome obstacles and challenges that you face. I encourage your talent development by helping you focus on and define your goals and exploring options for reaching them.
Over the next several blog posts, I will share with you my thoughts about the critical connections between creativity and positive emotions and how creative thinking and problem solving may be used to enhance those positive emotions while bringing you closer to your goals.
Next up, what does the creative process look like and how might I use it to enhance positive emotions in my life every day?
